Our Past... In January 1955, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Henson returned to the Lakeview Community to live. The Rev. R.E. Cure of the First Southern Baptist Church in Tulare, California came to visit them. While he was visiting the Henson’s, he was asked if he would return soon and bring a message to friends and relative’s at the Henson's new home. Bro. Cure accepted and on February 3. 1955, he and Mrs. Cure came bringing with them both hymnals and folding chairs. There were twenty-three adults and four babies in attendance. More importantly...three young women were saved! After this high spiritual hour fifteen of those present voted to start a Baptist Mission. In the weeks that followed the men began construction on a temporary meeting place. Two old Quonset Huts were made available through the courtesy of H.B. Farms. They were moved together and placed end to end with considerable repair to be done. Now the group had a place for its meetings. During this time Rev. J.G. Heard, then Missionary for the San Joaquin Valley Southern Baptist Association was called and asked for his help and advice. The Greenfield Southern Baptist Church, with Rev. J.L. Brantley as Pastor, extended an arm to help us as a Mission. They provided hymnals, pews and the first quarters literature for Sunday School and Training Union. The first service was held in the old Quonset building March 27, 1955 with 31 people present and $32.43 for an offering. Several ministers and our Missionary Bro. Heard came to preach for us during those early days of the work. Rev. R. E. Cure came from Tulare and held a Revival Meeting from May 2 through May 5, 1955. On May 6, 1955 the Mission was organized into the Lakeview Southern Baptist Church with about 100 people present. There were nine Churches represented from the Association. The Organizational Council was formed from Pastors and Deacons including: Rev. J.L. Brantley, Moderator; Rev. Willie Elms, Clerk; Rev. J.G. Heard, Articles of Faith; Rev. J.R. DeLap, Church Covenant; Russell Trammell, Questions; Rev. R.E. Cure, Prayer and Rev. A.C. Turner, Sermon. Following Organization of the Church, Greenfield Southern Baptist Church granted twenty-three letters for the purpose of organizing the Lakeview Southern Baptist Church. For 50 years the Lakeview Baptist Church has met & worshipped at the corner of Copus & Old River Road. After much prayer and discussion, the decision was made to relocate the church. The church has been blessed with many families from both the Bakersfield and the Taft area. The search for a new location would need to be between both of those communities.

Our Purpose… To provide Kern County with a Church that is firmly committed to the Bible and which has a firm belief in it's authority for our lives as we evangelize, disciple and build families of one or more. We will emphasize children, teen and family building ministries through in-depth Bible teaching, discipleship and special events as well as providing a place to encounter God in regular meaningful worship.
